Why are metals good conductors of electricity?

Chemistry

In metals, electrons are freely held because they form metallic bonds with each other. In a metallic bond, instead of a bond created by sharing electrons just between two atoms, electrons are shared between many atoms of the element of a metal. This creates a sea of electrons that makes it very easy for energy in the form electricity to move through the metal.

In most elements, atoms hold tightly to their atoms but in most metals, atoms hold their electrons rather loosely.

Metals are good conductors because the molecules that are inside the metal are tightly packed together. This is why the heat moves through the metal quickly.

Isotopes (such as hydrogen-1, hydrogen-2, and hydrogen-3) are atoms of the same
MrRissso [65]

Answer:

a. The number of neutrons in the nucleus

Explanation:

Having more protons or electrons would change the charge of the atom making it an ion. Neutrons have no charge so the overall charge of the atom is not affected; neutrons also have a relative mass of 1 which is why there are different isotopes.

Hope this helps!

Can someone help me with sig figs? i cannot tell the difference of the zeros.
musickatia [10]

Answer:

Explanation:

 • If the number is written in scientific notation, everything counts. For example 1.5540000 * 10^9 all numbers count. Answer 8 sig digs.
 • If the number is not written in scientific notation then left hand zeros may or may not count. It's a guessing game 34000 You really don't know until it is put in scientific notation.
 • If the number is a decimal between 0 and 1 then the numbers immediately after the decimal do not count. For example 0.00034 has two sig digs.
 • If the number is between 0 and 1 and there are after a known sig dig., then it depends on what you are told. For example 0.00045400 is a guess. There are at least three sig digs. 454. What you do with the last two zeros is a guess.

Which type of formula represents the simplest whole-number ratio of atoms of the elements in a compound?
sleet_krkn [62]
The empirical formula represents the simplest whole number shows the simplest whole number ratio of atoms in a compound. An example of this is the empirical formula for glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆) is C₃H₆O₃.

I hope this helps. Let me know if anything is unclear.

In a science lab, Cash mixes two clear liquids together in a beaker. Bubbles are produced, and a white solid forms and settles t
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

A chemical change occurred, so even if Cash heats it, the white solid will remain.

Explanation:

 • A physical change occurred, so if Cash heats it, the white solid will dissolve to form the original mixture of clear liquids.
 • A physical change occurred, so even if Cash heats it, the white solid will remain.
 • A chemical change occurred, so if Cash heats it, the white solid will dissolve to form the original mixture of clear liquids.
 • A chemical change occurred, so even if Cash heats it, the white solid will remain.

The correct answer would be that a chemical change occurred, so even if Cash heats it, the white solid will remain.

Chemical changes occur when atoms in a substance or mixture of substances are rearranged, leading to the formation of new substances.

In this case, the mixture of the two clear liquids led to the formation of gas in form of bubbles and a white solid forms that settle at the bottom. The formation of these 2 substances from the mixture of the two clear liquid is an indication of chemical reaction/changes. Hence, even if cash heats the resulting mixture, the white solids will likely remain.
