The importance of placing a decimal point correctly in the quotient of a division problem is that if you misplace it, you'll get the wrong answer because let's say you have the number 0001. Well if you place the decimal at 00.01 that makes it 1 hundredths. Or, if you place it like 0.001 that makes it 1 thousandths. So placing it correctly may vary your answer.
