Cancer cells continue to grow in the cultures uncontrollably allowing scientists to test multiple medications on the cancer cells. Specific treatments that are shown to fight the growth of cancer cells in the culture can be used on patients. Cultures are safer to use than injections of unneeded medications into patients.

Using various tissue cultures can help people understand how cancer works, how it spreads, how it can be attacked and eventually beaten. Scientists can experiment with them without being afraid that something will happen to the patient since they wouldn't be using actual cancer patients, but rather a piece of tissue in a lab.
