Answer:

Dimensions of photo excluding border:

x = 11 inches

y = 6 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length be 'x' and width be 'y'.

The width of a photo is 5 inches less than its length, that is:

x-5 = y

let 'X' be length of photo including border and 'Y' be the width of photo including border:

Where X = x+2 and Y = y+2

Now , we have X-5 = Y

and X*Y = 104 square inches

*putting Y = X-5*

X(X-5) = 104

X^2 - 5X - 104 = 0

X^2 - 13X + 8X - 104 =

X(X-13)+8(X-13) = 0\\(X-13)(X+8)

⇒ X-13 = 0          or        X+8 = 0

Hence X = 13       or X = -8

As length can not be negative, X = 13 inches

Y = X-5 = 13-5 = 8 inches

Dimensions of photo excluding border:

x = X - 2 = 13-2 = 11 inches

y = Y-2   =  8-2 =  6 inches

There are 12 project managers that are employed by Mr. Wells

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

Solving linear equation mean calculating the unknown variable from the equation.

Let the linear equation : y = mx + c

If we draw the above equation on Cartesian Coordinates , it will be a straight line with :

<em>m → gradient of the line</em>

<em>( 0 , c ) → y - intercept</em>

Gradient of the line could also be calculated from two arbitrary points on line ( x₁ , y₁ ) and ( x₂ , y₂ ) with the formula :

\large {\boxed{m = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}}}

If point ( x₁ , y₁ ) is on the line with gradient m , the equation of the line will be :

\large {\boxed{y - y_1 = m ( x - x_1 )}}

<em>Let us tackle the problem!</em>

This problem is about Directly Proportional.

<em>There were 8 engineers under every team leader.</em>

\texttt{1 Team Leader} \rightarrow \texttt{8 engineers}

\texttt{15 Team Leader} \rightarrow 15 \times \texttt{8 engineers} = \boxed{\texttt{120 engineers}}

\texttt{ }

<em>There were 5 project managers for every 50 engineers.</em>

\texttt{50 engineers} \rightarrow \texttt{5 project managers}

\texttt{120 engineers} \rightarrow (120 \div 50) \times \texttt{5 project managers} = \boxed{\texttt{12 project managers}}

Step-by-step explanation:

<h2>Order of operations</h2>

PEMDAS

Parenthesis, exponent, multiply, divide, add, and subtract from left to right.

Do exponent.

\displaystyle \frac{1}{5^3}

\displaystyle 5^3=5\times5\times5=125

\displaystyle \frac{1}{125}=125

\large \boxed{\frac{1}{125}}, which is our answer.
