Ben went to the farmer’s market with $14.00, bought 2 pounds of cherries and still had enough money left to buy 3 pounds of appl

es. Tom went to the farmer’s market and bought 6 pounds of apples and 4 pounds of cherries for $28.00.
14 – 2y = 3x, 6x + 4y = 28

The boys solved the equations to find the price per pound that they paid for cherries and found the solution 14 = 14. How should they interpret this result?

A: The price of 4 pounds of cherries is $14.00.

B: The price of 2 pounds of cherries is $14.00.

C: They made a math error when solving the equations, and should try a different solution method to find the price of the cherries.

D: The two equations describe the same line, so there is not enough information to determine the price per pound of cherries.

Take the sequence in 1a

The 10th term is 31

The 20th is 61

If you wanted to find these by continuing the series, you'd have to add 3 to the last number in the series, then 3 more, then 3 more, until you reach the 20th term. By this point, you will have added 3 to the first term 19 times. That's where the formula comes from. So here,

a = 4, the first term

n = 20, the number of the term we need

d = 3, how much we're adding each time between one term and the next

Then, to get the 20th term,

4 + (20 - 1) • 3 = 4 + (19 • 3) = 4 + 57 = 61

Answers

The 10th and 20th terms of each sequences are

a. 31; 61

b. 48; 98

c. 47; 97

(in <em>c</em>, you're adding the same <em>d</em> as in the sequence above, but your first term is one unit less)

d. -25; -75

(same thing as before, but now, <em>d</em> is negative)

e. 11.5; 16.5

(with <em>d</em>=1/2 or 0.5)

f. 6+1/2; 8+1/2

Use these to check your answers after applying the formula, but know that I calculated on the fly and didn't check these.

Find the values of the variables in the parallelogram. The diagram is not drawn to scale. (Image is attached below)thank you in
irina1246 [14]

For this problem, we are given a parallelogram with a diagonal drawn, inside it there are markings for a few angles. We need to determine the unknown angles.

Opposite sides of a parallelogram are parallel, this means we can treat the diagonal as a transversal line that crosses two parallel lines. Since this is the case, the angles 33º and xº are alternate interior angles and have the same length:

x=33º

The opposite angles in a parallelogram are congruent, therefore:

z=109º

The sum of internal angles is 360º, therefore we have:

\begin{gathered} 2\cdot109+2\cdot(x+y)=360\\ \\ 218+66+2y=360\\ \\ 284+2y=360\\ \\ 2y=360-284\\ \\ 2y=76\\ \\ y=38 \end{gathered}

The value of x is 33º, the value of y is 38º and the value of z is 109º.

The population of a bacteria sample doubles every 6 hours. How long would it take for the population to triple?
seraphim [82]

The way to solve this question is to essentially reverse the equation I used in the other answer.

I would solve this with some theoretical values. If you start with 3, how long would it take for it to triple, or reach 9.

the equation would look like 9 = 3(2)^t/6, note how the instead of 1/2 it is now 2 in the parenthesis, as it doubles every 6 hours rather than halves every amount of hours.

When placed into an algebra calculator, the answer should be about 9.5 hours
