Although most gray squirrels have gray fur, sometimes individuals with white or black fur are born. If a white-furred individual

were born in a population of gray squirrels living in a Florida forest, what would be the most likely long-term consequence of its presence for the squirrel population if the forest remained unchanged for the next several generations?

The population will remain primarily gray and the white squirrel would probably be eaten prior to adulthood.

The predators will easily notice white squirrels on the trees. Squirrels with white fur could not easily hide from the predators so they will probably be eaten at some point.

The presence of a white squirrel wouldn't really have any long term effect on the squirrel population the forest in Florida. The reason for that is that the white squirrel, probably an albino, would have huge problems in its survival. The chances are very big that it will not be able to reach adulthood, and even if it did, it will be a short-lasting one.

The short life span of the white squirrel will be due to its coloration, which will leave it without camouflage in the forest, thus making it an easy target for the predators. Also, the white squirrel, if it somehow manages to get to stage in its life to mate, it will be avoided by the other squirrels because it has a disadvantageous feature.

How is the ability to recognize the umami taste an evolutionary advantage?
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

Umami identifies foods that might contain essential amino acids.

Explanation:

You may have heard that our taste buds can recognize the four basic tastes: sweet, salty, sour and bitter. But what many still do not know is that the human taste recognizes one more taste - the "umami".

Umami is recognized by our taste buds when we eat foods that contain substances called aminoacids. The umami flavor is composed of three main substances present in various foods: glutamate, inosinate and guanylate. The ability to recognize umami taste is an evolutionary advantage of humans that represents the ability to identify foods that may contain essential aminoacids.
