What is the ultimate measure of evolutionary success?

Biology

There is only one measure of "evolutionary success": having more offspring. A "useful" trait gets conserved and propagated by the simple virtue of there being more next-generation individuals carrying it and particular genetic feature "encoding" it. That's all there is to it.

One can view this as genes "wishing" to create phenotypic features that would propagate them (as in "Selfish Gene"), or as competition between individuals, or groups, or populations. But those are all metaphors making it easier to understand the same underlying phenomenon: random change and environmental pressure which makes the carrier more or less successful at reproduction.

You will sometimes hear the term "evolutionary successful species" applied to one that spread out of its original niche, or "evolutionary successful adaptation" for one that spread quickly through population (like us or our lactase persistence mutation), but, again, that's the same thing.

In order to caluclate the specific activity of the isolated
Anastaziya [24]

Answer:

Explanation:

This is evident that all enzymes are proteins but not all proteins are enzymes. The specific activity can be define as the number of enzyme units per milliliters that is divided by the available concentration of the proteins typically in mg/ml. Thus the value of the specific activity can be measured in  units/mg.

In others words this can be said that how much enzymes units can be found in the 1 mg of the total protein. So in the total concentration of the proteins the estimation of the enzyme units is possible. Thus protein concentration is necessary for calculating the number of the enzyme units.

Which type of solution would cause a bacterium with a weak or damaged cell wall to burst as water moves into the cell? view avai
Ber [7]
A hypotonic solution<em /> would cause the bacterial cell to lyse or burst. This happens via osmosis. When the concentration of solutes is higher inside the cell, water will move towards that higher concentration because it tries to balance things out. When a lot of water gets into the cell and it can no longer handle it anymore, it will burst or lyse.
