Compare and contrast the Amish culture to the American Culture
Natalija [7]

The Amish are a unique subculture living in the U.S., in that they generally do not adopt the norms, customs, and lifestyle of the broader society. ... On reason the Amish tend to live in separate communities is that they view the outside world as a threat to their religion and culture.

Amish Cultural Practices

Amish beliefs tie into every aspect of their life. Because they believe salvation is an everyday experience, they take great care to protect their conservative values. One of the biggest differences between the Amish and other religious fundamental groups is the lack of evangelicalism.

How is the movement in the asthenosphere responsible for volcanoes and earthquakes?
masha68 [24]

Answer:

When plates move away from each other, the space between them gets filled with material, which rises to the surface, cools and forms mid-oceanic ridges. The Pacific Ocean is growing wider by about 18 cm per year as the plates diverge and the mid-oceanic ridge is built up. Where plates come into contact, energy is released. Plates sliding past each other cause friction and heat. Subducting plates melt into the mantle, and diverging plates create new crust material. Subducting plates, where one tectonic plate is being driven under another, are associated with volcanoes and earthquakes.

When Alfred Wegener first proposed the idea of continental drift (the precursor idea to plate tectonic theory), it didn’t quite explain the full story. While he correctly showed that Africa and South America fitted together, his model wasn’t able to explain the violent forces that occur around the Earth’s crust. It wasn’t until the 1960s that a full explanation began to develop – the theory of plate tectonics.
