So you don't have to use pi for this problem you can do L*W
So you can do 20*36

Shaded region = area of rectangle - area of semicircle

= l x b - πr²/2

= 20 x 36 - 3.14 x 18/2 x 18/2 x 1/2

= 720 - 127.17
 
= 592.83 ft²
