It was started by the leader of the former Soviet Untion, Mikhail Gorbachev, beginning in 1985 and as the policy (or practice) of a more open government and more sharing of information.
Some reasons were that Native Hawaiians were against U.S. annexation, and the controversy of how US marines used force against the Queen Liliuokalani of Hawaii (held her at gunpoint) and also the fact that President Grover Cleveland himself was against annexation.
An example of a single-issue party would be: Prohibition party
Single issue party refers to a party that created in political landscape to fight only for one specific issue. Prohibition party could be considered as an example of single-issue party because it was created specifically to oppose the sales of alcohol related products.
