8. Painkilling chemicals (i.e. analgesics) that occur naturally in the body are known as "endorphins."
This term comes from the fact that these endorphins act like internal (endogenous) morphines (opiates).
So they shortened endogenous morphine to "endo - orphines" = endorphins.
