Johannes Gutenberg was born in Germany. His hometown was the center for goldsmiths and he may have had some trainings in goldsmithing when he was young. He started his experiments with printing when he was about the age of 40. He combined movable type, type molds, oil-based inks, and a printing press to make a workable printing system. These ideas had already existed before but he improved them all.<span> </span>
