A plant grows faster and fuller due to large amounts of fertilizer. If the plant cross-pollinates with another plant later, how

will the use of fertilizer on the parent plant affect the plant’s offspring?
All of the offspring will be taller than average because the parent plant’s genes were affected.
Some of the offspring will be taller than average because some of the alleles were affected.
The height of the offspring will not change because the parent’s genes did not change.
The height of some of the offspring will be taller if the other parent plant was also fertilized.

How can humans reduce the amount of endangered and extinct species?
Andrews [41]
There are many ways humans can reduce the amount of endangered and extinct species. However, I would say by reducing pollution and logging/mining. Nearly 318 species have become extinct due to pollution. The reduction of carbon emissions would be a good way to curb the amount of pollution produced by humans.

When pressing and releasing the swollen ankle indentations remained in the soft tissue?
yawa3891 [41]
This condition is called Edema. It is when something swells up, which happens when too much fluid is trapped in the soft tissues. Blood vessels emit the fluid which fills up in the soft tissue. It can happen because of burns, allergic reactions, and even pregnancy. (Sometimes women's feet swell.)

In pea plants, long stems are dominant to short stems, purple flowers are dominant to white, and round peas are dominant to wrin
meriva

Assuming the genes are not linked nor interacting with each other, the expected number of long stemmed plants with purple flowers, producing wrinkled peas, L-P-rr, is 288.

Available data

  • long stems are dominant to short stems
  • purple flowers are dominant to white,
  • round peas are dominant to wrinkled

  • Each trait is determined by a single, different gene.

  • A heter0zyg0us plant is self-crossed
  • F1) 2,048 descendants

Let us name te alleles as follows

  • L ⇒ Long stem
  • l ⇒ Short stem
  • P ⇒ Purple flowers
  • p ⇒ white flowers
  • R ⇒ Round peas
  • r ⇒ wrinkled peas

Cross) heter0zyg0us plant is self-crossed

Parental) LlPpRr

Gametes) LPR, LPr, LpR, Lpr, lPR, lPr, lpR, lpr

Assuming that these genes are not linked nor interacting with each other, to make the calcs easier we will make crosses considering each gene separately.

  • Stems

Parental) Ll x Ll

F1) 1/4 LL, 2/4 Ll, 1/4 ll

3/4 long stem, 1/4 short stem

  • Flower color

Parental) Pp x Pp

F1) 1/4 PP, 2/4 Pp, 1/4 pp

3/4 purple flowers, 1/4 white flowers

  • Peas

Parental) Rr x Rr

F1) 1/4 RR, 2/4 Rr, 1/4 rr

3/4 round peas, 1/4 wrinkled peas

Now, we will get the proportion of individuals with long stems, purple flowers, producing wrinkled peas, L-P-rr

Note: The symbol - is representing either a dominant or a recessive allele.

From the crosses, we know that

  • 3/4 are long stemmed,
  • 3/4 have purple flowers, and
  • 1/4 have wrinkled peas.

To get the proportion of individuals expressing all these traits together, we just need to multiply these values.

3/4 L- x 3/4 P- x 1/4 rr = 9/64 L-P-rr

Knowing that the total number of plants is 2,048 and that there are 64 possible gametes combinations from this cross, we will use the proportion 9/64 to get the number of plants with these traits.

64 ------------- 2,048 plants

9 -------------- X = (9 x 2048) / 64 = 288 plants.

We expect to find 288 long stemmed plants with purple flowers, producing wrinkled peas.

Undifferentiated cells in a tissue that can become specialized cells of that tissue, but not of other tissues, are __________ ce
lara31 [8.8K]

The answer is stem cells, they consist of classes of cells that are undifferentiated and are able to be classified them into types like specialized cells. They consist of having two main sources that will help them develop and mature, these main sources are called the embryonic stem cell and the adult stem cell.

Forming glycogen as energy storage in the liver is an example of ________.
lorasvet [3.4K]

Forming glycogen as energy storage in the liver is an example of anabolism.

What is anabolism?

Anabolism is a metabolic process that consists of the construction and manufacture of more complex molecules from simpler molecules. This contributes to cell growth and energy storage for tissue maintenance.

The process of anabolism can be seen in processes such as the formation of triglycerides or glycogen for energy reserves within cells or in the formation of muscle proteins, given in the sports world.

In these anabolic processes, a lot of energy is consumed since much more complex molecules are being manufactured.

It is a totally opposite and complementary process to catabolism, in which these complex molecules are broken down into much simpler molecules and the release of energy is generated.

For a correct homeostasis of the body, these two processes have to be balanced and work in a complementary way.

Therefore, we can confirm that forming glycogen as energy storage in the liver is an example of anabolism.
