Use distance = rate x time

Let "t" be the time it took for you to drive to your parent's house at 60mph.

So 60t would be the distance.

And "t+40" would be the time it took for you to get to your parent's house at 50 mph.  And that total distance would be 50(t+40).

Since both the distances are the same, this gives us the equation:

60t = 50(t+40)

Simplify:  60t = 50t + 2000
10t = 2000
t = 200 minutes

Driving at 60 mph for 200 minutes equates to a total distance of 200 miles.

What is the point-slope form of a line with slope 6 that contains the same point (1,2)
garri49 [273]
Step 1: Create an equation with a slope of 6
y=6x+b

Step 2: Substitute x and y by with the point (1,2) and solve the equation for b
y=6x+b
2=6(1)
2=6
2=6+b
b=-4

Step 3: Substitute -4 for b in the equation
y=6x+b
y=6x+(-4)
y=6x-4

The equation that has a slope of 6 and passes through the point (1,2) in point-slope form:
y=6x-4

Suppose that the relation S is defined as follows.S = ( -6,0), (5,-3), (-6,-1), (-8,5)Give the domain and range of S. Write your
Angelina_Jolie [31]

The domain of a relation is all the x - values the relation can take, so:

domain = {-8, -6, 5}

The range, in addition, is all the y - values the relation can take, so:

range = {-3, -1, 0, 5}

Alvin wants to know what his average paddling rate was for a canoe trip to a campsite. On the way there it took him 8 hours agai
Marizza181 [45]

let

r--------> Alvin's average paddling rate in km/hour

y -------> speed of the current in km/hour

we know that

speed= distance/time ------> solve for distance

distance=speed*time

to Campsite against the current

speed=r-y-----> speed=(r-3)

time=8 hours

distance=(r-3)*8------> equation 2

From Campsite with the current

speed=r+y-----> speed=(r+3)

time=3 hours

distance=(r+3)*3------> equation 1

equate equation 1 and equation 2-----> because is the same distance

(r+3)*3=(r-3)*8----> 3r+9=8r-24----> 8r-3r=24+9-----> 5r=33----> r=6.6 km/hour

therefore

the answer is

Alvin's average paddling rate is 6.6 km/hour
