A species of marine snails have either solid or striped shells. Scientists found that 37 percent of the snail population was str

iped, and 63 percent was solid. Sea birds are the main predator and when scientists studied their diet, they found that the birds ate more striped snails than solid snails. What could scientists conclude about the snails?

The scientist can conclude that the snails that have a solid shell are more adapted to the environment than the striped ones.
This is an example of the directional type of natural selection, where one extreme of the phenotype (in this case the solid shell) is favored. The scientists can use this information to predict the future development in the snail population and to hypothesize that the number of the solid shell snails is going to increase in the future and the numbers of the stripped snails are going to decrease.

A response that is uniquely directed against pathogenic bordetella pertussis would involve what component?
xxMikexx [17]

Answer:

Antibodies

Explanation:

Bordetella pertussis is an obligate human pathogen and is the etiological agent of whooping cough. It is known to be an opportunistic organism.

The pathogenic mechanism of Bordetella pertussis is also known as virulence factor. These virulence factors are known to include adhesins such as filamentous haemagglutinin, fimbriae and pertactin, which allow B. pertussis to bind to ciliated epithelial cells in the upper respiratory tract.

It is known to be the agent of whooping cough, a highly contagious respiratory disease, dramatic for infants and also for elderly and pregnant women.

In this case, the antibodies will be the response that is uniquely directed against the organism. It is said earlier that this organism is an opportunistic one, this means that it causes infection when the immunity is down. So, when the immunity is empowered , it will definitely fight against the organism
