Astronomers are those that study about the astronomical bodies, and earth scientists (geologists) studies about the rocks and minerals that are found on and under the earth's surface.

Both these type of scientists uses some common type of tools and instruments. Some of these tools and equipment are as follows-

(1) Compass- It is widely used in order to determine the east, west, north and south direction. It basically helps for navigation purposes.

(2) Microscope- These are used in order to study the mineral characteristics that are found to be present in the rocks, meteorites and other celestial objects. It helps in getting a larger image of these minerals and structures that are found in the rocks.

(3) Camera- it is also an important equipment that is efficiently used because it helps in taking images of the rocks and their orientation in the field and also those distant object preset outside the earth.

(4) Telescopes and binoculars- These are also used to get a better view of the landscape from distant places. Telescopes enables the viewer to see the distant objects such as the planets, stars and other celestial objects.
