Isabel ran around the track 6 times at the same rate of speed . It took her 24 minutes to run. John took 3 minutes to run around

the track once. Which student ran faster? Please explain .

John, since 24/6=4, and 3<4. 
You need to divide 24 by 6 so that you can find how long she took for each lap. no complex math is needed for John since they tell you how long he took for the one lap he ran.
