A physical change is reversible, a chemical change is not. A physical change is a change in which no new substance is formed; a chemical change results in the formation of one or more new substances

Physical changes occur when the properties of a substance are retained and/or the materials can be recovered after the change. Chemical changes involve the formation of a new substance. Formation of a gas, solid, light, or heat are possible evidence of chemical change.

2.) At what temperature in Celsius will a 1.0g sample of neon gas exert a pressure of 500 torr in a 5.01 L container. (Hint: use
Studentka2010 [4]

The required temperature of the sample of gas is 823K.

What is ideal gas equation?

Ideal gas equation gives idea about the behavior of gas at different condition & represented as:

PV = nRT, where

  • P = pressure = 500 torr = 0.657 atm
  • V = volume = 5.01 L
  • R = universal gas constant = 0.082 L.atm / K.mol
  • T = temperature = ?
  • n = moles

Moles will be calculated as:
n = W/M, where

  • W = given mass
  • M = molar mass

Moles of Neon gas = 1g / 20.1g/mol = 0.049 mole

On putting all these values in the above equation, we get

T = (0.657)(5.01) / (0.049)(0.082) = 822.8 = 823 K

Hence required temperature of the sample is 823 K.

If the reactants of wood when burning weigh 10 kgs, how much will the products weigh?
aksik [14]

Answer:

the weight of products is is equal the weight of the wood plus the weight of oxygen that was used to burn that wood, so weigh of the product is greater than 10 kilograms.

Explanation:

Conservation of mass (mass is never lost or gained in chemical reactions), during chemical reaction no particles are created or destroyed, the atoms are rearranged from the reactants to the products.

In this example wood (mostly carbon) and oxygen are reactants and carbon dioxide (mostly) is product of reaction.

A sample in the laboratory is found to contain 3.36 grams of hydrogen, 20.00 grams of carbon, and 26.64 grams of oxygen. The mol
KonstantinChe [14]

Answer:

Empirical formula is CH₂O.

Molecular formula = C₆H₁₂O₆

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of hydrogen = 3.36 g

Mass of carbon = 20.00 g

Mass of oxygen = 26.64 g

Molar mass of compound = 180.156 g/mol

Empirical formula = ?

Molecular formula = ?

Solution:

Empirical formula:

It is the simplest formula gives the ratio of atoms of different elements in small whole number

Number of gram atoms of H = 3.36 / 1.01 = 3.3

Number of gram atoms of O = 26.64 / 16 = 1.7

Number of gram atoms of C = 20 / 12 = 1.7

Atomic ratio:

            C                      :        H            :         O

           1.7/1.7                :     3.3/1.7       :       1.7/1.7

              1                     :           2          :        1

C : H : O = 1 : 2 : 1

Empirical formula is CH₂O.

Molecular formula:

Molecular formula = n (empirical formula)

n = molar mass of compound / empirical formula mass

Empirical formula mass = CH₂O = 12×1 + 2× + 16

Empirical formula mass = 30

n = 180.156 / 30

n = 6

Molecular formula = n (empirical formula)

Molecular formula = 6 (CH₂O)

Molecular formula = C₆H₁₂O₆

15.35 L of gas is at a pressure of 198.0 kpa. At what pressure would the gas have a volume of 13.78
Ivahew [28]

Answer:

P₂ = 220.56KPa

Explanation:

Boyles Law P ∝ 1/V => Inverse relationship => Decreasing Volume => Increasing Pressure.

P₁ = 198 KPa           P₂ = ?

V₁ = 15.35 Liters     V₂ = 13.78 Liters

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂ => P₂ = P₁(V₁/V₂) = 198KPa(15.35 L/ 13.78L) = 220.6KPa
