Today's politicians will always favor money over the protection of the environment. These politicians are short-sighted and do not consider the short and long-time effects of the destruction of the environment. Money is what they value the most.
What we need to do is keep on pushing hard and be perseverant in our demands for reparations. There are some non-governmental organizations and environmental groups that demand reparations but it seems that corrupt legislators and officers are only interested in the money big corporations are offering to do nothing to protect the environment.
