The sum of two numbers is 43 . the smaller number is 11 less than the larger number. what are the numbers?

Set x as the smaller number and y as the bigger one.
x+y=43
y-11=x

Solve by substitution:
y-11+y=43
2y-11=43
2y=54
y=27
27-11=16
x=16

The numbers are: 27 and 16
