As part of their settlement of Manhattan, the Dutch purportedly purchased the island from the Native Americans for trade goods worth 60 guilders. More than two centuries later, using then-current exchange rates, a U.S. historian calculated that amount as $24, and the number stuck in the public’s mind. Yet it’s not as if the Dutch handed over a “$20 bill and four ones,” explained Charles T. Gehring, director of the New Netherland Research Center at the New York State Library. “It’s a totally inaccurate figure.” He pointed out that the trade goods, such as iron kettles and axes, were invaluable to the Native Americans since they couldn’t produce those things themselves. Moreover, the Native Americans had a completely different concept of land ownership. As a result, they almost certainly believed they were renting out Manhattan for temporary use, not giving it away forever. Due in part to such cultural misunderstandings, the Dutch repeatedly found themselves at odds with various Native American tribes, most notably in the brutal Kieft’s War of the 1640s. “The Dutch were instructed by their authorities to be fair and honest with the Indians,” said Firth Haring Fabend, author of “New Netherland in a Nutshell.” “But you can’t say they were much better [than the other European nations colonizing the Americas.] They were all terrible.”

Was the open door policy in China fair?
melomori [17]

Answer:

The Open Door Policy was not fair to all nations because China was forced to open their borders to trade with other countries without their consent, it caused rebellious behavior in China, and other countries reaped the profits. The Chinese were forced to open their borders and trade with other countries.

Explanation:

Why was the Open Door Policy created? The US had recently gained a foothold in East Asia, and they were afraid they'd be forced out of the Chinese market by countries who had been there longer than them, so they created the policy to ensure they wouldn't lose their ability to trade with China.

____________are physically diminished as minerals and other materials are extracted from the ground and are sold or used in the
Dennis_Churaev [7]

Answer:

Natural resources are physically diminished as minerals and other materials are extracted from the ground and are sold or used in the production process, whereas equipment, land, and buildings have physical characteristics that remain unchanged.

Explanation:

 • When a non-renewable natural resource is consumed, it can be deemed that it would take a few thousand years for the same amount of resources to replenish. Hence, non-renewable natural resources have a high economic cost.
 • The assets that these resources are used to generate, exhibit endurance and remain unchanged for a long period of time.
 • Hence, it can be said that natural resources last even after they are used up, but in different forms.
