Humanism is a philosophical perspective that became popular during the Renaissance. This view emphasizes the importance of individuals, as well as their critical and rational skills. This perspective encourages people to rely on their logic and their critical skills as opposed to relying on traditional sources of knowledge such as superstition and dogma. This view greatly altered the role of religion during the Renaissance. It led people to question religion in ways that they had not done before, diminishing the control of the Church over society.
