3. Calculate: You can use your data to estimate the duration of each phase of the cell cycle. For example, if 8% of the cells we

re in prophase and the cell cycle was 10 hours long, then prophase would last 8% of 10 hours, or 0.8 hours (48 minutes). Use percentages to estimate the duration of each phase of the cell cycle. Show your work.

Answer:

Cell has two main phases; i) inter-phase and mitotic phase, which are further divided into sub types.

Explanation:

As given

For example, if 8% of the total cells were in prophase of cell cycle.

Length of cell cycle= 10 hours long, and prophase= 8% of 10 hours, or as , 0.8 hours (48 minutes).

Using % to estimate the duration of each phase of the cell cycle, the duration would be;

Interphase: 0.845×10=8.45 8hr27min

Prophase: 0.077×10=0.77 46.2min

Metaphase: 0.01×10= 0.1 6min

Anaphase: 0.025×10=0.25 15min

Cells, like bacteria and archaea, that do not have a nucleus in their cells have traditionally been called _____.
Montano1993 [528]

Cells, like bacteria and archaea, that do not have a nucleus in their cells have traditionally been called prokaryotes.

What are prokaryotic cells?

Prokaryotes are organisms whose cell (or cells) are characterized by the absence of a nucleus or any other membrane-bound organelles.

Prokaryotic cells are opposed to their eukaryotic counterparts that possess a membrane-bound nucleus that houses their genetic material (DNA).

Examples of prokaryotes are as follows:

  • Bacteria
  • Archeaebacteria

Therefore, cells, like bacteria and archaea, that do not have a nucleus in their cells have traditionally been called prokaryotes.

Could you use the dichotomous key in this section to identify a species of
Pepsi [2]

Answer:

Yes, the species of a lizard can be identified using dichotomous keys.

Explanation:

A dichotomous key is an identification tool used by the biologists especially taxonomists to identify and classify the organisms.

The dichotomous keys are based on the characteristic feature of an organism for which two which contains two contrasting feature. The dichotomous keys are the most common tools used to classify an organism.

A species of lizard can be identified using these keys by selecting the key characteristic feature shown by the species which could be quantitative like weight, height or it could be qualitative like colour. By comparing these characteristics, it becomes easy to identify the species.

Explain why habitats with high biodiversity tends to contain narrow ecological niches and white habitats?
alexdok [17]

Answer:

because they reduce interspecific competition

Explanation:

Narrower niches are known to be more specific and limited compared to broader niches, which are generally less specific and less limited. The species that live in broad niches are named generalists because they are able to withstand different conditions. A narrow niche is often correlated with reduced overlap and thus tends to reduce interspecific competition. For example, coral reefs consist of a wide variety of species (including anemones, sea sponges, sea fans, brain corals, etc) which have narrow niches, thus showing high biodiversity.

How does the cerebral arterial circle ensure that the brain has a constant supply of blood?
Viktor [21]
Via collateral circulation. This is an alternative route of blood circulation around the brain whenever one pathway is blocked or narrowed. The arterial arrangement of the brain are symmetrically designed in such a way that continuous blood flow the brain is ensured. The cerebral arteries (anterior and posterior) can be interchangeably shared if one of them is restricted. This means that if one artery is blocked/narrowed the other can accommodate the blood flow needed by the brain.
