The Quotient Rule for the derivative is to take the lower function and multiply it by the derivative of the upper function, then subtract from that the upper function multiplied by the derivative of the lower function, all over the lower function squared.  For us that looks like this: f'(x)= \frac{x(0)-8(1)}{ x^{2} }.  Simplified that's f'(x)= \frac{-8}{ x^{2} }.   If we are evaluating that derivative at x = -1, then we have f'(-1)= \frac{-8}{(-1)^2} = \frac{-8}{1}=-8

31-inch piece of steel is cut into three pieces so that the second piece is twice as long as the first piece and the third piece
pychu [463]

"31-inch piece of steel is cut into three pieces"

Call the pieces a,b,c

a + b + c = 31

"second piece is twice as long as the first piece"

b = 2a

"third piece is one inch more than seven times the length of the first piece"

c = 1 + 7a

Ok, we have our equations, let's substitute the second and third into the first.

a + 2a + 1 + 7a = 31

10a + 1 = 31

10a = 30

a = 30/10 = 3

b = 2a = 6

c = 1 + 7a = 22

Check: 3 + 6 + 22 = 31, good

Answer: 3 inches, 6 inches, 22 inches

Given that lines a and b are parallel, what angles formed on line b when cut by the transversal are congruent with ∠2?
Kruka [31]

Answer:

The angles formed on line b when cut by the transversal are congruent with ∠2 are \angle{6}\text{ and }\angle{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

If transversal line crossed by two parallel lines, then, the corresponding angles and alternate angles are equal .

The angles on the same corners are called corresponding angle.

Alternate Angles:  Angles that are in opposite positions relative to a transversal intersecting two lines.

∠2 and ∠6 are corresponding angles

Therefore, ∠2 = ∠6

∠2 and ∠7 are alternate exterior angles

Therefore, ∠2 = ∠7

Hence, the angles formed on line b when cut by the transversal are congruent with ∠2 are \angle{6}\text{ and }\angle{7}
