Remember you can do anything to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

-8=(x+11)/-2
times both sides by -2
remember that negative tiems negative=positive
16=x+11
minus 11 both sides
16-11=x+11-11
5=x+0
5=x
x=5

Rewriting the whole as an Equivalent Fraction :

<span> 2.1 </span>  Adding a fraction to a whole

Rewrite the whole as a fraction using <span> -2 </span> as the denominator :

x x • -2 x = — = —————— 1 -2

<span>Equivalent fraction : </span>The fraction thus generated looks different but has the same value as the whole

<span>Common denominator : </span>The equivalent fraction and the other fraction involved in the calculation share the same denominator

Adding fractions that have a common denominator :

<span> 2.2 </span>      Adding up the two equivalent fractions
Add the two equivalent fractions which now have a common denominator

Combine the numerators together, put the sum or difference over the common denominator then reduce to lowest terms if possible:

x • 2 + 11 • -1 2x - 11 ——————————————— = ——————— 2 2 <span>Equation at the end of step  2  :</span> (2x - 11) -8 - ————————— = 0 2 <span>Step  3  :</span>Rewriting the whole as an Equivalent Fraction :

<span> 3.1 </span>  Subtracting a fraction from a whole

Rewrite the whole as a fraction using <span> 2 </span> as the denominator :

-8 -8 • 2 -8 = —— = —————— 1 2 Adding fractions that have a common denominator :

<span> 3.2 </span>      Adding up the two equivalent fractions

-8 • 2 - ((2x-11)) -2x - 5 —————————————————— = ——————— 2 2 <span>Step  4  :</span>Pulling out like terms :

<span> 4.1 </span>    Pull out like factors :

   -2x - 5  =   -1 • (2x + 5)

<span>Equation at the end of step  4  :</span> -2x - 5 ——————— = 0 2 <span>Step  5  :</span>When a fraction equals zero :<span><span> 5.1 </span>   When a fraction equals zero ...</span>

Where a fraction equals zero, its numerator, the part which is above the fraction line, must equal zero.

Now,to get rid of the <span>denominator, </span>Tiger multiplys both sides of the equation by the denominator.

Here's how:

-2x-5 ————— • 2 = 0 • 2 2

Now, on the left hand side, the <span> 2 </span> cancels out the denominator, while, on the right hand side, zero times anything is still zero.

The equation now takes the shape :
   -2x-5  = 0

Solving a Single Variable Equation :

<span> 5.2 </span>     Solve  :    -2x-5 = 0<span>

 </span>Add  5  to both sides of the equation :<span>
 </span>                     -2x = 5
Multiply both sides of the equation by (-1) :  2x = -5

Divide both sides of the equation by 2:
                     x = -5/2 = -2.500

solution                  <span> x = -5/2 = -2.500</span>

You just have to multiply straight across. Multiply the numerators for the new numerator, and the denominators for the new denominator.

PLZ answer quick!!!!!
Blizzard [7]

Number of items sold by Shelley = 3 items.

Let us assume cost of each item sold by Shelley = $ x each.

Total cost of 3 items for Shelly sold = 3*x = 3x.

Number of items sold by Billy Bob = 4 items.

The cost of each item sold by Billy Bob = $2.25 less than the items that Shelley bought = $(x-2.25) each.

Total cost of 4 items for Billy Bob sold = 4*(x-2.25) = 4(x-2.25).

Both Shelley and Billy Bob paid the same amount of money. So, we can setup an equation now.

a) Total cost of 4 items for Billy Bob sold=Total cost of 3 items for Shelly sold.

4(x-2.25) = 3x

b) Solving equation for x now.

Distributing 4 over (x-2.25), we get

4x - 4*2.25 = 3x.

4x -9 = 3x.

Adding 9 on both sides, we get

4x -9+9 = 3x+9

4x =3x+9.

Subtracting 3x from both sides, we get

4x-3x =3x-3x+9.

x = 9.

c) Checking the solution of the equation by plugging x=9 in equation we got above.

4(x-2.25) = 3x  => 4(9-2.25)= 3*9

               => 4*6.75 = 27

               => 27 = 27.

We got left side = right side. So the solution x=9 is correct.

d) The cost of each item sold by Billy Bob = 9-2.25 = $6.75

Therefore, the cost of each item sold by Shelley is $9 and cost of each item sold by Billy Bob is $6.75.

The area of the rug is 4 15/36<br> The rug is 2 3/4 meters in height <br> How wide is the rug
sineoko [7]
I assume the rug is rectangle.

The area of rectangle is width (W) multiply by hight (H)

A=4\frac{15}{36}=4\frac{5\cdot3}{12\cdot3}=4\frac5{12}\\\\H=2\frac34\\\\\\A=W\cdot H\\\\4\frac{5}{12}=W\cdot2\frac34\\\\4\frac5{12}:2\frac34=W\\\\ \frac{4\cdot12+5}{12}:\frac{2\cdot4+3}{4}=W\\\\ \frac{53}{12}:\frac{11}4=W\\\\ \frac{53}{12}\cdot\frac4{11}=W\\\\ \frac{53\cdot4}{3\cdot4\cdot11}=W\\\\W=\frac{53}{33}\\\\W=1\frac{20}{33}

The rug is  1\frac{20}{33}  meters wide
