What is the resolution of Stephen Blackpool's storyline in Hard Times, by Charles Dickens?

English

Answer:

C). His death by falling into a hole.

Explanation:

Stephen Blackpool is the character in 'Hard Times' who Dickens chooses to provide the other side of industrialization. His life is full of poverty and drudgery which stands in direct contrast to Bounderby's wealth and possession. He believes in values and moral integrity which again is contradictory to Bounderby's immoral world.

As per the question, Dickens provides the resolution of Blackpool's storyline by making him a martyr through his death for Tom's crime. His death could be the product of his determination to stand by his virtues and not submitting his moral integrity by joining the workers' union. He refuses to join the union as he wanted to live a life of honesty and integrity which is in stark contrast to the self-interest of Bounderby and this contrast corresponds to the conflict which reflects the social muddle. Blackpool was framed into a false robbery case which eventually led him to his death which throws light upon the inability of values of truth, loyalty, and integrity to stand in a corrupt world. Thus, option C is the correct answer.

Anne's Voice. You could not do this and you could not Which type of conflict does this excerpt show?
Andru [333]

Answer:

The answer is Character vs. Society or it might be character vs character. I am pretty sure it is character vs society though.

Explanation:

In this story excerpt they are told to go into hiding and are told that they can no longer do certain things. That is because of the state of the world that the text was in. It is not character vs. character because two characters are not arguing or having any conflict and it is not character vs self because the character is not having an internal conflict about their confidence or mental health or whatever.

1. What are some of the things that happened to the prisoners when they first got to the camps?
IgorLugansk [536]
As the Jews were the main targets of Nazi genocide, the victims of the killing centers were overwhelmingly Jewish. In the hundreds of forced-labor and concentration camps not equipped with gassing facilities, however, other individuals from a broad range of backgrounds could also be found. Prisoners were required to wear color-coded triangles on their jackets so that the guards and officers of the camps could easily identify each person's background and pit the different groups against each other. Political prisoners, such as Communists, Socialists, and trade unionists wore red triangles. Common criminals wore green. Roma (Gypsies) and others the Germans considered "asocial" or "shiftless" wore black triangles. Jehovah's Witnesses wore purple and homosexuals pink. Letters indicated nationality: for example, P stood for Polish, SU for Soviet Union, F for French.

Captured Soviet soldiers worked as forced laborers, and many of these prisoners of war died because they were executed or badly mistreated by the Germans. In all, over three million died at the hands of the Germans.

Twenty-three thousand German and Austrian Roma (Gypsies) were inmates of Auschwitz, and about 20,000 of these were killed there. Romani (Gypsy) men, women, and children were confined together in a separate camp. On the night of August 2, 1944, a large group of Roma was gassed in the destruction of the "Gypsy family camp." Nearly 3,000 Roma were murdered, including most of the women and children. Some of the men were sent to forced-labor camps in Germany where many died. Altogether, hundreds of thousands of Roma from all over German-occupied Europe were murdered in camps and by mobile killing squads.

Political prisoners, Jehovah's Witnesses, and homosexuals were sent to concentration camps as punishment. Members of these three groups were not targeted, as were Jews and Roma, for systematic murder. Nevertheless, many died in the camps from starvation, disease, exhaustion, and brutal treatment.
