There are no real numbers that can do that.

If you were to go far enough in high school math, you'd learn
about something called "imaginary" numbers.  Using those, the
two numbers that add to 4 and multiply to 7 are

       2 + 3.464 i
and
       2 - 3.464 i   .

The little ' i ' is the unit of imaginary numbers . . . the square root of -1 .

You won't ever get that far, since you already hate math
and you want everybody to know it.

What are the solutions to the equation (2x – 5)(3x – 1) = 0?
user100 [1]

Answer: x=\frac{5}{2}, x=\frac{1}{3}

Explanation:

The equation is:

(2x-5)(3x-1)=0

The term on the left consists of a product of two different factors: therefore, this product can be zero if either the first term (2x-5) or the second term (3x-1) is equal to zero.

This means that we can solve separately for the two terms:

2x-5=0\\3x-1=0

Solving the first equation:

2x-5=0\\2x=5\\x=\frac{5}{2}

Solving the second equation:

3x-1=0\\3x=1\\x=\frac{1}{3}

A 12-foot wire supports a tree creating a 48 degreee angle. What is the closest distance up the tree that the wire reaches?
BartSMP [9]

The closest distance up the tree where the wire reaches is 17.93 foot.

<u>Explanation:</u>

Given-

Length of the wire, L = 12 foot

angle, Ф= 48°

Distance upto which the wire reaches the tree, x = ?

We know,

cos Ф = base/ hypotenuse

cos 48° = 12/ x

0.669 = 12/x

x = 17.93 foot

Therefore, the closest distance up the tree where the wire reaches is 17.93 foot.
