A househusband is cooking beef stew for his family in a pan that is (a) uncovered, (b) covered with a light lid, and (c) covered
raketka [301]

Answer:

Cooking will be shortest when the househusband covers the beef stew with the heavy lid.

Step-by-step explanation:

The explanation for this is that water boils at 100°C at normal atmospheric pressure & it remains at that temperature until all the water evaporates as steam; the temperature can then go higher in steam form.

So, if he leaves the pan uncovered the pressure above the beef stew will be the atmospheric pressure and the temperature of the stew will not pass the 100°C mark and the food cooks at 100°C.

If he places a light lid on top, the pressure will build up & the temperature at which water remains liquid is a bit higher, but eventually the steam will push the lid to escape thereby releasing pressure & reducing the temperature.

If he puts a heavy lid on the pan the pressure can build up the highest and the temperature of the water in the stew will stay the highest ensuring the fastest cooking.

Basically, the heavier the lid, greater the pressure in the pan. As the pressure gets greater, the saturation temperature at which water starts boiling will be higher. And higher boiling temperatures mean shorter cooking times.

Find the volume of the given solid region in the first octant bounded by the plane 9z+15y+15z=45 and the coordinate planes, usi
dem82 [27]

First,

9x+15y+15z=45\implies 3x+5y+5z=15

The volume is given by the integral (one of 6 possible combinations),

\displaystyle\int_0^5\int_0^{\frac{15-3x}5}\int_0^{\frac{15-3x-5y}5}\mathrm dz\,\mathrm dy\,\mathrm dx=\boxed{\frac{15}2}

Juan always saves the same amount from his weekly allowance. The table shows how much he has saved at different times.
erastova [34]
On the 14 week Juan will save $ 52 because each 3 week he earns 3.
So you do 9 divide by 3 and get 3. Then you do 3 times 2 and get 6.
46 + 6 = 52

Sarah goes for a run around her neighborhood. She runs 2.5 miles in 20 minutes. Sarah’s average speed is ______ miles per minute
MrMuchimi
I think I would first convert it to hours to solve it and then back to minutes at the end. Super strange it’s been asked for in minutes.

So to convert 20 minutes into hours, you need to multiply by 3.

This means you need to do the same to the other side, cause if they’ve travelled 2.5 miles in 20 minutes, they’d travel 3 times that in an hour.

So this is 7.5m/ph

But then they want it in minutes, so I suppose 7.5/60?

So 0.125m/pm?
