The photoelectron spectrum for the element boron is represented above. Which of the following best explains how the spectrum is

consistent with the electron shell model of the atom? The spectrum shows an odd number electrons. A The spectrum shows a single electron in the 2p subshell. B The spectrum shows equal numbers of electrons in the first and second electron shells. C The spectrum shows three electrons with the same binding energy in the second electron shell.

Answer:

  • A. The spectrum shows a single electron in the 2p subshell.

Explanation:

The figure attached is representation of the photoelectron spectrum for the element boron, which is the missing part of the question.

There are three peaks. Each peak represents one subshell: 1s, 2s, and 2p.

Indeed, Boron has 5 electrons: 2 in the subshell 1s, 2 in the subshell 2s and one in the subshell 2p.

The first peak, the peak to the left of the diagram, is as high as the second peak, meaining there are the same relative number of electrons in the 1s and 2s subshells.

The third peak, the one to the right of the diagram is half as high as the other two peaks, there are half electrons in the 2p subshell as in the 1s and 2s subshells.

Since Boron has five electrons, the photoelectrum spectrum shows that there are two electrons in the 1s subshell, two electrons in the 2s subshell, and a single electron in the 2p subshell.

Then, as for the answer choices:

  • A The spectrum shows a single electron in the 2p subshell: correct as explained in the last part of the previous paragraph.
  • B The spectrum shows equal numbers of electrons in the first and second electron shells: incorrect as it shows two electrons in the first shell (1s) and three electrons in the second shell (2s and 2p).
  • C The spectrum shows three electrons with the same binding energy in the second electron shell: incorrect as it shows different binding energies for the electrons in the second electron shell: two electrons below 1 MJ/mol, and one above 1 MJ/mol.

For a given sample of ch3oh, the enthalpy change during the reaction is 82.3 kj . how many grams of methane gas are produced?
Leno4ka [110]
The equation is as follows;
2CH3OH(g) = 2CH4(g) + O2(g), ΔH= +252.8 kJ
From the equation; for the reaction to produce 2 moles of methane (32g) an energy of 252.8 kJ is released.
Therefore; for an energy of 82.3 kJ the number of moles that will be produced will be; = (2×82.3)/252.3
                               = 0.6524 moles
                  which is equivalent to 0.6524 × 16 = 10.438 g
There, the mass of CH4 produced will be 10.438 g

Which has the most gravitational potential energy- a 10 kg ball that is 2 meters high or a 10 kg ball that is 4 meters high?
Alenkasestr [34]

Answer:

The 10 kg ball that is 4 meters high is greater than a 10 kg ball that is 2 meters high

Explanation:

From the question,

Gravitational Potential Energy of the first ball

P.E1 = mgh.................... Equation 1

Where P.E1 = Gravitational Potential Energy of the first ball, m = mass of the first ball, h = height of the first ball, g = acceleration due to gravity.

Given: m = 10 kg, h = 2 m

Constant: g = 9.8 m/s²

Substitute these values into equation 1

P.E1 = 10×2×9.8

P.E1 = 196 J.

Similarly,

Gravitational potential energy of the second ball is

P.E2 = m'gh'................... Equation 2

Where P.E2 = Gravitational potential Energy of the second ball, m' = mass of the second ball, h' = height of the second ball.

Given; m' = 10 kg, h' = 4 m

Substitute these values into equation 2

P.E2 = 10×4×9.8

P.E2 = 392 J

From the above calculation,

P.E2 is greater than P.E1.

Hence, the 10 kg ball that is 4 meters high is greater than a 10 kg ball that is 2 meters high

Please match the following acids with its description:
marin [14]

Answer:

The answer is 1. A type of acid that completely reacts with water.

Explanation:

A strong acid dissociates completely in water to release hydrogen ions as the only positive ions.

This is the simple definition of Arrhenius acid.
