The nucleus manages the daily operations of the cell. Organelles need instructions from the nucleus. Without a nucleus, the cell cannot get what it needs to survive and thrive. A cell without DNA lacks the capacity to do much of anything other than its one given task.

If the fossil <em>is </em>living or once lived, that would make it biotic. If the fossil is not alive, that would make it abiotic.
