Can someone explain scientific notations and exponents? like how to do them 8th grade math!

Scientific Notation :

Example :

$4.5 \times {10}^{3}$

The exponent is 3 in this case and is positive meaning the zeros will follow after the 5 in 4.5 and not before that like this,

$45000$

If it was negative then the zeros would follow before the 4 in 4.5 like this,

$0.0045$

$4.5 \times {10}^{3}$

The picture shows how it is done!!

Just do the loops around the number and put and egg inside of it like a cup.

That's all!!

Exponents :

${9}^{2}$

Or 9^2 is titled 9 to the power of 2.

You do NOT do this...

$9 \times 2$

You do,

$9 \times 9$

And if to the power of 5 then it'll be,

$9 \times 9 \times 9 \times 9 \times 9$
