The Reign of Terror was a period during the French Revolution that was characterized by extreme violence. France saw the public execution of thousands of people, along with many multiple massacres. The main person responsible for this chaos was Maximilien Robespierre, and his "Committee of Public Safety." This period is considered to have ended in July 1794, with the fall of Robespierre. The Reign of Terror is often used as evidence of the negative consequences of radical revolutions.
