El Niño is a climatic occurrence that happens every few years (usually 3 to 5), and it presents the warming of the water on the surface of the Pacific ocean. It comes with higher air pressure on the western, and lower air pressure on the eastern Pacifics.

With this comes various weather changes and occurrences, some positive and some negative. Two of them are:

• In the south of the United States, El Niño brings extensive rainfalls during September and November. The rainfalls can help the fertility of the soil, but also can cause flooding in these parts.
• El Niño affects the equatorial Pacific region and its weather by causing a warmer climate during the following spring and summer. The summers following El Niño have proven to be some of the hottest ones in history, resulting in the forest fires and droughts.
