ABLE Trucking Company has a job moving 21 tons of sand. The company has 8 drivers in the company and 2 types of trucks. One type

of truck can haul 5 tons of sand and the other type of truck can haul 3 tons. Insurance requirements make it necessary for trucks hauling 5 tons of sand to have two drivers in the cab during the operation. Three ton trucks require only one driver. Using all available drivers, how many trucks of each size will be needed to move the sand in one trip?

Well you need three trucks that can pull 5 tons of sand each; that gives us 15 tons total taken care of so far, and 2 drivers left.
The last two drivers drive two trucks that pull 3 tons of sand each; giving us a total of 21 tons and zero drivers left.
Hope this helps!

Twenty people apply for 5 job openings as teacher assistants. How many different groups of people can be hired?
iVinArrow [24]

Answer:

15504 different groups

Step-by-step explanation:

We have a total of 20 people, and we want to know how many groups of 5 people we can make, where the order of the people inside the group doesn't matter, so we can solve this question calculating the combination of 20 choose 5.

The formula for combination is:

C(n, p) = n! / (p! * (n-p)!)

In this case, we have n = 20 and p = 5, so:

C(20, 5) = 20! / (5! * 15!) = 20*19*18*17*16 / (5*4*3*2) = 15504

So we have 15504 different groups.
