Answer:

2nd and 4th equation will have only one solution.

Step-by-step explanation:

1). 4x² + 4x = 0

4x(x + 1) = 0

x = 0

or (x + 1) = 0 ⇒ x = -1

2). x² + 6x + 9 = 0

(x + 3)² = 0

(x + 3) = 0

x = -3

3). 9x² - 25 = 0

9x² = 25

x² = \frac{25}{9}

x = ±\sqrt{\frac{25}{9} }

x = ±\frac{5}{3}

4). 5x² + 20x + 20 = 0

5(x² + 4x + 4) = 0

(x + 2)²= 0

x + 2 = 0

x = -2

5). x² - x - 6 = 0

x² - 3x + 2x - 6 = 0

x(x - 3) + 2(x - 3) = 0

(x + 2)(x - 3) = 0

x = -2 or x = 3

Therefore, 2nd and 4th equations have only one solution.

A survey of 14 middle school students showed the mean number of minutes
SashulF [63]
Hi :)

The mean is the average, and to take the average, they had to do this:

{students' minutes added together} ÷ 14 students = 133 minutes

This is basic pre-algebra; to find the total, we do the reverse of what they did. Since they divided by 14 to get 133, we're going to do the opposite. We're going to multiply 133 by 14 to get the total:

133 × 14 = 1862 minutes

Next question. The typical amount of time a student talked in a week was 133, and you're trying to find the typical amount of time in a day. There are 7 days in a week, so divide 133 by 7 to get the typical number of minutes in a day. (I won't do this for you-- you got this!)

Alright, so 19 students talked 171 minutes on average. Let's go back again and see what the total number of minutes were.

{total} ÷ 19 = 171
{total} = 171 × 19
{total} = 3249

But, hang on. They don't just want to know the total, they want to know the "mean number of minutes the additional five other students talked". That means we have to first subtract the 14 students' total from the 19 students' total to see what the difference is:

3249 - 1862 = 1387

So the five students added 1387 minutes to the average.

Divide 1387 by 5 to see the mean number of minutes per each of the five students.

You got this! Have fun!!

Each year about 1500 students take the introductory statistics course at a large university. This year scores on the final exam
Luba_88 [7]

Answer:

a. Left Skewed

b. More students scored above 70

c. No

d. 0.0008

e. standard deviation increases by 1.4142

Step-by-step explanation:

a. The distribution  is Left skewed. The maximum possible score is 100 and the mean is 70, hence, there is a barrier preventing a long right tail.

-The scores to the left is only 20, the left therefore is longer.

-The median, 74, is higher than the mean, 70, thus the mean is more left leaning.

b.More students will score more than 70.

-the median is 74 suggesting that 50% plus have scored 74points +

- Given the mean is 70 points, it's therefore obvious that more than 50% of the students have score more than 70 points.

c. No. This is not a normal distribution therefore we cannot calculate the probability that a randomly chosen student scored above 75 using this distribution.

d. The sample size  n is large, n>30, so we can use the central limit theorem to approximate the probability:

Standard \ Error=\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}\\\\=\frac{10}{\sqrt{40}}\\\\=1.5811\\\\z=\frac{75-70}{1.5811}\\\\=3.1623\\\\\\(PX>70)=P(z>3.1623)\\\\=0.0008\\

e. The standard deviation will increase by the square root of the decreament :

\sqrt{2}=1.4142

#Standard deviation increases by 1.4142

As Jupiter revolves around the sun, it travels at a rate of approximately
Mashutka [201]
Since there's 60 seconds in a minute, it travels at 8*60=480 miles/minute. In four minutes it will travel 4*480=1920 miles.
