Hey there !

Molar mass carbon dioxide:

CO2 = 44.01 g/mol

1) number of moles :

1 mole CO2 ------------- 44.01 g
(moles CO2) ------------ 243.6 g

moles CO2 = 243.6 * 1 / 44.01

moles CO2 = 243.6 / 44.01

=> 5.535 moles of CO2

Therefore:

1 mole -------------------- 6.02x10²³ molecules
5.535 moles ------------ ( molecules CO2)

molecules CO2 = 5.535 * ( 6.02x10²³) / 1

=> 3.33x10²⁴ molecules of CO2

If 14.5kj of heat were added to 485g of liquid water, how much would its temp increase
OlgaM077 [116]
<span>7.15 degrees C The specific heat capacity of water is 4.1813 J/(g*K). So we have 3 values with the units kJ, g and J/(g*K). We can trivially convert from kJ to J by multiplying by 1000. And we want to get a result with the unit K (degrees Kelvin). So let's do it. First, let's cancel out the g unit by multiplying. 4.1813 J/(g*K) * 485 g = 2027.9305 J/K Now we can cancel out the J unit by dividing. But if we divide by the energy, we'll be left with the reciprocal of K, not K. So instead divide by the J/K unit. So 14500 J / 2027.9305 J/K = 7.150146418 K Rounding to 3 significant figures gives us 7.15 K. And since degrees C and degrees K are the same size, the temperature will increase by 7.15 degrees C</span>

How much energy is released by the decay of 3 grams of 230Th in the following reaction 230 Th - 226Ra + "He (230 Th = 229.9837 g
Serhud [2]

<u>Answer:</u> The energy released for the decay of 3 grams of 230-Thorium is 2.728\times 10^{-15}J

<u>Explanation:</u>

First we have to calculate the mass defect (\Delta m).

The equation for the alpha decay of thorium nucleus follows:

_{90}^{230}\textrm{Th}\rightarrow _{88}^{226}\textrm{Ra}+_2^{4}\textrm{He}

To calculate the mass defect, we use the equation:

Mass defect = Sum of mass of product - Sum of mass of reactant

\Delta m=(m_{Ra}+m_{He})-(m_{Th})

\Delta m=(225.9771+4.008)-(229.9837)=1.4\times 10^{-3}amu=2.324\times 10^{-30}kg

(Conversion factor: 1amu=1.66\times 10^{-27}kg )

To calculate the energy released, we use Einstein equation, which is:

E=\Delta mc^2

E=(2.324\times 10^{-30}kg)\times (3\times 10^8m/s)^2

E=2.0916\times 10^{-13}J

The energy released for 230 grams of decay of thorium is 2.0916\times 10^{-13}J

We need to calculate the energy released for the decay of 3 grams of thorium. By applying unitary method, we get:

As, 230 grams of Th release energy of = 2.0916\times 10^{-13}J

Then, 3 grams of Th will release energy of = \frac{2.0916\times 10^{-13}}{230}\times 3=2.728\times 10^{-15}J

Hence, the energy released for the decay of 3 grams of 230-Thorium is 2.728\times 10^{-15}J

for: rate=k[A]^x determine the value of x if the rate doubles when [A] is doubled; and if the rate quadruples when [A] is double
Rom4ik [11]
<span>1. The value of x if the rate doubles when [A] is doubled is that </span><span>x = 1

</span><span>2. Then if the rate quadruples when [A] is doubled is that x= 2
Since x=1 when the rate doubles, so if it quadruples, it will be times 2.
So the solution to this is 1 times 2= 2
x=2</span>
