1. a = 10 b = ? c = 24

10² + b² = 24²

100 + b² = 576

b² = 476

b ≅ 21.8

2. a = 3 b = ? c = 5

b = 4 because of the 3 4 5 triangle rule

3. a = 9 b = ? c = 12

81 + b² = 144

b² = 63

b ≅ 7.9

Simplify (3x - 2) - (3x + 6)
Naddika [18.5K]
(3x - 2) - (3x+ 6)=

3x - 5) + (3x + 6)

3x - 5 + 3x + 6

Combine the 'x'-terms: 3x + 3x = 6x
Combine the numbers: -5 + 6 = 1

The expression is equivalent to . . . . . 6x + 1

A coconut shy at the village fair offers three throws for $1, or seven throws for $2. In one hour, 187 throws are made and the a
kotykmax [81]

Total throws = 187

Let three throws = 3t

And

Seven throws = 7s

So

3t + 7s = 187 -------------- (1)

While total collected money = $57

Money for three throws = 1t

Money for seven throws = 2s

Hence

1t +2s = 57 ------------------(2)

Now solving both equations, so multiply second equation by 3 and subtract it from equation (1);

Equation (2) becomes 3t + 6s = 171

While subtracting it from equation (1) gives the final equation as below.

s = 16

Putting s = 16 in equation (2);

1t + (2x16) = 57

1t + 32 = 57

t = 25

Thus 25 people bought three throws and 16 people bought seven throws.

As for 25 people having three throws = $25

And

16 people having seven throws = 2x16 = $32

So total earned money = 25 + 32 = $57

Hence proved.

How many solutions does this system have?
goblinko [34]

A system of equation may have one, zero or infinitely many solutions

The system of equation has no solutions

The systems of equation are given as:

y = -6x - 5

-2y +7 = 12x

Substitute -6x - 5 for y in -2y +7 = 12x

-2(-6x - 5) +7 = 12x

Open brackets

12x + 10 +7 = 12x

12x + 17 = 12x

Subtract 12x from both sides of the equation

17 = 0

The above equation is not true i.e.17 \ne 0

Hence, the system of equation has no solutions

Use the order of operations to simplify the following expression.
Aneli [31]
We know the order of operations, right? PEMDAS
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition and
Subtraction.
So, by using the order of operation, it would come out to:
-24
But I don't see that as an answer choice... a typo maybe? :) Hope this helps anyways!
