The only common context with Dilation and function is that they are both describing the equation. Dilation is actually a characteristic defining the translation or compression of the graph of a function. Wherein there is a common point or center point.

There is a total of 270 men, women and children on a train.
ryzh [129]

Because the ratio of women to children is 10:1, double the ratio of men to women so the women are both 10:

Men to women becomes 8:10

Now total the 3 ratios: 8 for men, 10, for women and 9 for children:

8 + 10 + 9 = 27

Divide total people by that number:

270/27 = 10

Multiply 10 by each ratio:

Men = 8 * 10 = 80

Women = 10 * 10 = 100

Children = 9 *10 = 90

There is 80 men.

Man has $100 and wants to buy a radio and earphones. All radios and earphones are 25% off the List price and NO sales tax.
-Dominant- [34]
To find what 25 percent of 130 is we must convert 25 to a decimal. 0.25
Then we multiply .25 and 130 to get 32.5 dollars off 130. This means that the radio and earphones will cost $97.50 and you will have $2.50 remaining.

I don’t 100% remember how to turn this into a standard problem.. could someone help me really quick?
marin [14]
Standard form is ax^2+bx+c=0

First evaluate the exponent and expand (foil).
y= 3(x^2-4x+4)+1

Then distribute the 3
y= 3x^2-12x+12+1

Combine like terms
y=3x^2-12x+13

Final answer: 3x^2-12x+13=0
