There he described a world filled with war and hate, he states that the only solution to this is love. Those were times were society was being tested as a lot of social movements and the questioning of the traditional norms were going on. The U.S. was involved in the Vietnam war, this war showed that innocent people were dying on both sides to defend some ideals that were only persuited by politicians. The civil right movement had happened just a few years ago, showing the worst part of american society. This song condensates the general feeling of the time.
