Use the following example for the question. A species of fish can withstand a narrow range of temperature. Above 100°F there are

no individuals present. In the range from 97°F–100°F and 90°F–94°F there are a few individuals present. Below 90°F there are no individuals present. Between 95°F–96°F there are many individuals. What would you label the range of temperature from 90°F to 94°F for this particular species?

Zone of physiological stress

Explanation:

For this particular species I would label 90°F to 94°F as the temperature zone of physiological stress.

We find that within this temperature range the number of individual in the population lessens. This means they are under certain physiological stress which limit there growth.

Again within 95°F–96°F we find that the number of individual is maximum. This means that the population can utilize the available resources to their maximum efficiency at this range. So, it is the optimum range.
