When the level of sodium in the human blood is below 135 mmol/L, then such person is said to have hyponatremia. One of the major causes of this condition is having excess water relative to solute in the body, which may be as a result of excess of prolonged exercise and drinking large volumes of water. This results in some form of malfunctioning of the kidney in its regulation of the amount of sodium in the blood.
