Lets x = width
height = 2x - 4

A = 1/2 b h
63 = 1/2 (x)(2x-4)
126 = 2x^2 - 4x
2(x^2 - 2x - 63) = 0
2(x - 9)(x + 7) = 0
x - 9 = 0; x = 9
x + 7 = 0; x = -7

so width = 9
height = 2(9) - 4 = 18 - 4 = 14

answer
width = 9 in
height = 14 in

If you place a 10-foot ladder against the top of a 6-foot building, how many feet will the bottom of the ladder be from the bott
Anika [276]

Answer: 8 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Draw a right triangle and label the sides using the given information. (Drawing below) Use pythagorean theorem to find the missing length:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

(building)^2 + (missing piece)^2 = (ladder)^2

6^2 + x^2 = 10^2

36 + x^2 = 100. subtract 36

x^2 = 64. square root of both sides

x = 8

A mobile phone carrier charges an extra fee if a customer uses more than 500 minutes each month. Tom has already used 230 minute
xxMikexx [17]
Let x = the minutes that Tom has remaining before exceeding 500 minutes.

Because he has already used 230 minutes, the total minutes he has is
x + 230
We want this total to be less than or equal to 500 minutes.
Therefore
x + 230 ≤ 500

Answer:  x + 230 ≤ 500

What is the 9th term of the geometric sequence 4, −20, 100, …?
sveta [45]
First, we are going to find the common ratio of our geometric sequence using the formula: r= \frac{a_{n}}{a_{n-1}}. For our sequence, we can infer that a_{n}=-20 and a_{n-1}=4. So lets replace those values in our formula:
r= \frac{-20}{4}
r=-5

Now that we have the common ratio, lets find the  explicit formula of our sequence. To do that we are going to use the formula: a_{n}=a_{1}*r^{n-1}. We know that a_{1}=4; we also know for our previous calculation that r=-5. So lets replace those values in our formula:
a_{n}=4*(-5)^{n-1}

Finally, to find the 9th therm in our sequence, we just need to replace n with 9 in our explicit formula:
a_{9}=4*(-5)^{9-1}
a_{9}=4*(-5)^{8}
a_{9}=1562500

We can conclude that the 9th term in our geometric sequence is <span>1,562,500</span>

Which inequality is true?
Aneli [31]

Answer: C

Step-by-step explanation:

Since everything is absolute value the negatives can be disregarded. This means the which everyone has the alligator mouth pointing to the bigger number it is the correct answer. This is true for c as the absolute value of -15 = 15 which is greater than the absolute value of 12 which is 12.
