Assume you inoculated 100 cells, with a generation time of 20 minutes, into 100 ml of nutrient broth. You then inoculated 100 ce

lls of the same species into 1000 ml of nutrient broth. After incubation for 3 hours, you can reasonably expect to have:

Answer:

the same number of cells in both.

Explanation:

Nutrient broth is a general purpose medium that can be used to cultivate different variety of both fastidious and non-fastidious microorganisms.

Nutrient broth is known to contain or compose of simple peptone and a beef extract.

It is known to be used for bacteria that will not form colonies on a solid surface.

Nutrient broth can be prepared through this following steps

* Add 13g of nutrient broth powder in 1L of distilled water.

* Mix and dissolve them completely.

* Pour them into the final containers (eg. conical flask)

* Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.

In this case, since the 100 ml and 1000 ml is prepared using the same method, it is expected to have the same number of cells in the same volume of the broth.

Hello. You forgot to enter the answer options. The options are:

"A) the same number of cells in both.

B) more cells in the 100 ml.

C) more cells in the 200 ml.

D) The answer cannot be determined based on the information provided"

Answer:

A) the same number of cells in both.

Explanation:

You inoculated the same amount of cells of the same species in nutrient broths of different amounts. It must be kept in mind that as the cells are of the same species, they have the same reproductive capacity, they will reproduce in the same ways.

Regarding the difference in volume of the nutrient broths, the broth with the lowest volume (100mL) presents the nutrients in a more concentrated way allowing the cells to have access to these nutrients faster and be able to reproduce more quickly. The nutrient broth with the largest volume (1000mL) will have the nutrients in a more diluted form, causing the cells to reproduce more slowly, but with the same reproductive capacity as the cells in the other broth. These factors will allow us to observe the same number of cells in both broths after 3 hours.

After performing a gram stain of a mixed culture of gram positive and gram negative cells, you shout: "oops, i forgot the iodine
zalisa [80]

Gram's staining is a differential staining technique that employs a primary stain like crystal violet and a counter stain like safranin along with the decolourizing agent alcohol and a mordant called the Gram's iodine.

Iodine is a mordant added after the primary stain. It fixes the stain by combining with it to enchance the staining ability. This forms an insoluble crystal violet iodine complex appearing purple under the microscope. These microorganisms are classified as Gram positive.

If addition of iodine is skipped, crystal violet is not fixed on the slide and the insoluble complex is not formed. The cells are decolourized by alcohol and are stained by the counter stain safranin making the Gram positive cells wrongly indentified as Gram negative due to its pink colouration. Thus, the slide will show all the cells as pink coloured Gram negative cells.

Quiz which condition could lead to drawdown below the level of existing wells?
irinina [24]

Answer:

Continuous pumping of water causes drawdown. The water table lowers rapidly.

Explanation:

 • Water table is the level below which the ground is saturated with water.
 • During rainfall the runoff water percolates into the ground through the gap in the soil particles and the water table is recharged.
 • But when gallons of water are pumped continuously it leads to a drastic reduction in the water table because, water from the surrounding aquifers move towards the place where the vacuum is created by pumping.
 • To prevent this, the groundwater should be recharged and over drawing should be avoided.
