Brady made a scale drawing of a rectangular swimming pool on a coordinate grid. The points (-20, 25), (30, 25), (30, -10) and (-

20, -10) represent the corners of the pool. What are the dimensions of the pool?

Answer:

Length = 50 units

width = 35 units

Step-by-step explanation:

Let A, B, C and D be the corner of the pools.

Given:

The points of the corners are.

A(x_{1}, y_{1}})=(-20, 25)

B(x_{2}, y_{2}})=(30, 25)

C(x_{3}, y_{3}})=(30, -10)

D(x_{4}, y_{4}})=(-20, -10)

We need to find the dimension of the pools.

Solution:

Using distance formula of the two points.

d(A,B)=\sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^{2}+(y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}}----------(1)

For point AB

Substitute points A(30, 25) and B(30, 25) in above equation.

AB=\sqrt{(30-(-20))^{2}+(25-25)^{2}}

AB=\sqrt{(30+20)^{2}}

AB=\sqrt{(50)^{2}

AB = 50 units

Similarly for point BC

Substitute points B(-20, 25) and C(30, -10) in equation 1.

d(B,C)=\sqrt{(x_{3}-x_{2})^{2}+(y_{3}-y_{2})^{2}}

BC=\sqrt{(30-30)^{2}+((-10)-25)^{2}}

BC=\sqrt{(-35)^{2}}

BC = 35 units

Similarly for point DC

Substitute points D(-20, -10) and C(30, -10) in equation 1.

d(D,C)=\sqrt{(x_{3}-x_{4})^{2}+(y_{3}-y_{4})^{2}}

DC=\sqrt{(30-(-20))^{2}+(-10-(-10))^{2}}

DC=\sqrt{(30+20)^{2}}

DC=\sqrt{(50)^{2}}

DC = 50 units

Similarly for segment AD

Substitute points A(-20, 25) and D(-20, -10) in equation 1.

d(A,D)=\sqrt{(x_{4}-x_{1})^{2}+(y_{4}-y_{1})^{2}}

AD=\sqrt{(-20-(-20))^{2}+(-10-25)^{2}}

AD=\sqrt{(-20+20)^{2}+(-35)^{2}}

AD=\sqrt{(-35)^{2}}

AD = 35 units

Therefore, the dimension of the rectangular swimming pool are.

Length = 50 units

width = 35 units

On Saturday, Lukas drove 4x – 5 miles. On Sunday, he drove 3x – 10 miles. What is the difference in miles driven?
Soloha48 [4]

Answer:

C

Step-by-step explanation:

(4x-5) - (3x-10) = ?

(4x-5) - 1 (3x-10) = ? DISTRIBUTE THE INVISIBLE -1 to (3x-10)

Turns into: 4x - 5 - 3x + 10

Which equals: x + 5

Diabetes is a disease that affects millions of Americans. In fact, about 25,585,000 U.S. adults had diabetes in 2010. At that ti
denis-greek [22]

Answer:

8.28%

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the legal official department in charge of the National Census every ten years, the population of the U.S.A in 2010 was<em> 308,745,538 inhabitants.</em>

If about 25,585,000 had diabetes, then <em>cross multiplying</em>

308,745,538-------100%

25,585,000---------x%

and

\frac{308,745,538}{25,585,000}=\frac{100}{x}

and so, about

x=\frac{25,585,000*100}{308,745,538}=8.28 \%

Americans had diabetes in 2010.

A real estate agent has 14 properties that she shows. She feels that there is a 50% chance of selling any one property during a
Ratling [72]

Answer:

91.02% probability of selling more than 4 properties in one week.

Step-by-step explanation:

For each property, there are only two possible outcomes. Either it is sold, or it is not. The chance of selling any one property is independent of selling another property. So we use the binomial probability distribution to solve this question.

Binomial probability distribution

The binomial probability is the probability of exactly x successes on n repeated trials, and X can only have two outcomes.

P(X = x) = C_{n,x}.p^{x}.(1-p)^{n-x}

In which C_{n,x} is the number of different combinations of x objects from a set of n elements, given by the following formula.

C_{n,x} = \frac{n!}{x!(n-x)!}

And p is the probability of X happening.

In this problem we have that:

n = 14, p = 0.5

Compute the probability of selling more than 4 properties in one week.

Either you sell 4 or less properties in one week, or you sell more. The sum of the probabilities of these events is decimal 1. So

P(X \leq 4)  + P(X > 4) = 1

We want to find P(X > 4). So

P(X > 4) = 1 - P(X \leq 4)

In which

P(X \leq 4) = P(X = 0) + P(X = 1) + P(X = 2) + P(X = 3) + P(X = 4)

So

P(X = x) = C_{n,x}.p^{x}.(1-p)^{n-x}

P(X = 0) = C_{14,0}.(0.5)^{0}.(0.5)^{14} = 0.000061

P(X = 1) = C_{14,1}.(0.5)^{1}.(0.5)^{13} = 0.000854

P(X = 2) = C_{14,2}.(0.5)^{2}.(0.5)^{12} = 0.0056

P(X = 3) = C_{14,3}.(0.5)^{3}.(0.5)^{11} = 0.0222

P(X = 4) = C_{14,4}.(0.5)^{4}.(0.5)^{10} = 0.0611

So

P(X \leq 4) = P(X = 0) + P(X = 1) + P(X = 2) + P(X = 3) + P(X = 4) = 0.000061 + 0.000854 + 0.0056 + 0.0222 + 0.0611 = 0.0898

Finally

P(X > 4) = 1 - P(X \leq 4) = 1 - 0.0898 = 0.9102

91.02% probability of selling more than 4 properties in one week.
