The easiest thing to do first is to make them like fractions.  The first number where 5 and 8 meet, is 40.  So it becomes 12 25/40 and 7 16/40.  So we need to subtract 12 from 7 and that gives us 5.  Then we subtract 16 from 25 and get 9.  So our new number is 5 and 9/40.   Thats the answer.

Simplify the expression by arranging the steps in sequence based on the order of operations 1/6(30x+24)-1/7(63-7×)
alex41 [277]

Answer:

6x-5

Step-by-step explanation:

We apply distributive property to get rid of the first parenthesis, by multiplying each term inside by the factor 1/6:

\frac{1}{6} (30x+24)-\frac{1}{7} (63-7x)\\\frac{30}{6} x+\frac{24}{6} -\frac{1}{7} (63-7x)\\5x+4-\frac{1}{7} (63-7x)

now we get rid of the second parenthesis by multiplying the factor "-\frac{1}{7}" times each of the terms inside the parenthesis (notice here that this factor is negative , so it will flip the signs of the terms it multiplies):

5x+4-\frac{1}{7} (63-7x)\\5x+4-\frac{63}{7} +\frac{7}{7} x\\5x+4-9+x

Next we combine like terms:

5x+4-9+x\\5x+x+4-9\\6x-5

A bicycle that usually sells for $230 is on sale for 15% off. Find the sale price.
nikitadnepr [17]

\frac{15}{100} = \frac{x}{230 } \\ x = \frac{15 \times 230}{100} = \frac{3450}{100 } = 34.5
15% of $230 is $34.5
230 - 34.5 = 195.5
so the price is $195.5
hope this helps
