Calculate the ratio of H+ ions to OH– ions at a pH = 6. Find the concentration of H+ ions to OH– ions listed in Table B of your
AlekseyPX

Answer:

You must know the concept of pH of a solution and its relation to the concentration of H+ and OH- ions. pH is a measure of the substance's acidity or basicity. From the definition of Arrhenius, an acid contains an H+ while a base contains a OH- ion. From this definition, we can say that an acidic substance has a higher concentration of H+ ions. Now, I'll introduce here that pH is the value of the negative logarithm of the concentration of H+. In equation,

pH = -log[H+]

The term pOH is therefore also, pOH = -log[OH-]. Therefore, the relationship that connects the two negative logarithms is:

pH + pOH = 14

The pH scale starts from 1 being the most acidic to 14 being the most basic. The neutral pH is 7. Thus, for a pH of 7, the H+ and the OH- concentrations are equal.

pH = 7 = -log[H+]

[H+] = 1×10⁻⁷ mol/L = [OH-]

Since the concentrations are equal, the ratio is equal to 1.

Sulfonation of naphthalene, C10H8, results in two products. One product is kinetically favored and predominates in the beginning
Marrrta [24]

Explanation:

The sulfonation of the naphthalene yield 2 products under different conditions:

When the reaction is carried at 80 °C, 1-naphthalenesulfonic acid is the major product because it is kinetically favoured product as arenium ion formed in the transition state corresponding to 1-naphthalenesulfonic acid is more stable due to better resonance stabilization.

When the reaction is carried at 160 °C, 2-naphthalenesulfonic acid is the major product as it is more stable than 1-naphthalenesulfonic acid because of steric interaction of the sulfonic acid group in 1-position and the hydrogen in 8-position.

The products are shown in image below.

Ainat [17]

Answer:

The correct answer is 4

Explanation:

Boron trifluoride (BF₃) has a molecular geometry (as shown in the image in the question) referred to as trigonal planar; this is because each of the the fluorine atoms/molecules (bonded to the central boron atom) is placed in such a way that they form the three "end points"/"domains" of an equilateral triangle. Hence, the correct option is the last option.
