There are many programs that American government provide over the years to help the citizens, like: Refugee Assistance, Adoption Assistance, Women, Infant and Children Food Program, Medical Assistance, and others, which provide basic services and benefits.
Healthcare is one are where the government has changed its philosophy and duty. Franklin Roosevelt began with Social Security during the New Deal and Lyndon Johnson added Medicaid and Medicare with the his "Great Society" plans. George W. Bush modernized the Medicare plans and then Barack Obama ushered in his "Health Care for America Plan" (sometimes referred to as "Obamacare") insurance plan.
