Strictly speaking, a hominid is considered as a general term corresponding for Homo, Pan and Gorilla. If this pertains to the genus Homo (class Hominini), then we only have one species left called Homo sapiens (modern humans) which developed from the ancestors called Homo erectus or Neanderthals. However, hominid could also mean the gorillas and chimpanzees belonging to another genus called Pan (class Hominini) and Gorilla (class Gorillini), respectively.

Which of the following are NOT correct based on Darwin's theory of evolution?
Black_prince [1.1K]

Answer:

D variations in individuals are not heritable

Explanation:

Genetic variation in individuals is what drives evolution. In a population of individuals in an environment, with the adequate resources, overpopulation can occur. However, resources are usually a limiting factor for population growth: there is not sufficient food/shelter etc. for everyone to survive.

Some individuals are better suited to success in the environment. This is because of random variation in their DNA that has arisen that give them a selective advantage. This allows them to thrive, take advantage of the limited resources over other members of the population, and be more likely to survive to reproductive age. This is natural selection.

Because this variation is genetic (in the DNA), they can then pass it on to their offspring. Over time, this leads to evolution over time.

Active volcanoes can affect the properties of the soil (e.g., pH) and therefore may alter agriculture and health.

What are active volcanoes?

Active volcanoes are geological formations that have regular cycles of eruptions, releasing liquid magma to the Earth's surface.

These eruptions are composed of rocks (or ash weathers) that generate fertile soils, but also may affect the respiratory airways.

Volcanic eruptions have devastating consequences for human populations and lead to destruction as well as societal collapse.

In conclusion, active volcanoes can affect the properties of the soil (e.g., pH) and therefore may alter agriculture and health.
