Ancient Egypt started when the first king, Narmer took the throne in the estimated era of 3100 BCE. It came to an end in 30 BCE with the passing of Cleopatra VII.

One of the most prominent civilizations that has contributed immensely to history is Ancient  Egypt. The land where Ancient Egypt stood has been a site for treasured historical evidence for all the archaeologists in the world. The old remains of the civilization have shown that it began in 3100 BCE when Narmer became the first ruler of Ancient Egypt. Since then, developments of remarkable monuments, tombs for every king and queen that has ever come into being, beautiful artifacts, hieroglyphs and paintings have been representing the Ancient Egypt to the world. The people were just as political as they were religious and strongly believed in Sun as a God.

Some other pointers for Ancient Egypt are:

  • 5000-3100 BC is considered as a developing phase of the Egyptian civilization
  • Archaic Period c. 3100-2686 BC was the time when foundations were laid for the Egyptian society, kingship became an important ideology
  • Old Kingdom Period c. 2686-2181 BC was the period when great pyramids were being built, the dynasties grew to power and provided a stable government but as time passed, it all started to deplete, bringing an end to the Old Kingdom era
  • First intermediate Period c. 2181-2055 BC brought forth famine, diseases, partition into two powers and later on, reunion of Egypt
  • Middle Kingdom Period c. 2055- 1786 BC brought pyramid-building back which had stopped in First Intermediate era, many more building projects took place; the era saw its first female ruler of Egypt and last ruler of the 12th dynasty
  • Second intermediate Period c. 1786-1567 BC was an unstable period for the civilization which brought forth foreign challengers for the rule of Egypt
  • New Kingdom Period c. 1567-1085 BC saw world's first great empire from Nubia all the way to Euphrates River (Asia), powerful female rulers were known, the era of Amenhotep and his religious revolution
  • Third Intermediate Period c. 1805-664 BC saw a change in politics, society and culture of Egypt
  • Late Period-Alexander’s Conquest c.664-332 BC saw Egypt under Persian rule, rebellions, Macedonian rulers after Alexander's rule, legendary Cleopatra's rule and her surrendering Egypt to Octavian; Christianity rose as a religion in the later years and by the end, the region was introduced to Islam
