x+ y =  96   →     y = 96 - x     (1)

And the price per plain cake * the number he sold + price of the decorated cake * the number he sold = total sales

So

8x + 12y = 800    (2)

Subbing (1) into (2), we have that

8x + 12 (96 - x)  = 800   simplify

8x + 1152 - 12x  = 800

-4x + 1152 = 800    subtract 1152 from both sides

-4x  = -352     divide both sides by -4

x = 88   = the number of plain cakes he sold

And 96 - x =  96 - 88  = 8   = the number of decorated cakes he sold

The difference in Cameron and Avery’s ages is 5. The product of their ages is 104. If Cameron is older, how old is Avery?
iragen [17]

Answer:

  • Cameron is 13 and Avery is 8 years old

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Cameron's age be x and Avery's age be y.

<u>The difference is 5 and the product is 104:</u>

  • x - y = 5
  • xy = 104

<u>Solve by substitution:</u>

  • x = y + 5
  • xy = 104
  • y(y + 5) = 104
  • y² + 5y - 104 = 0
  • y = (- 5 ± √(5² + 4*104))/2 = (- 5 ± √441)/2 = ( - 5 ± 21)/2

<u>Taking the positive root as age can't be negative:</u>

  • y = 8

<u>Find x:</u>

  • x = 8 + 5 = 13

Are there concepts/processes to strictly follow in writing radicals as expressions with rational exponents?
Eva8 [605]

Answer:

The concept or process is x^{\frac{m}{n}}=(\sqrt[n]{x})^m.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

The following property can be used to rewrite each radical as an exponent.

The numerator tells the power of the resulting rational exponent, and the denominator of the rational exponents tells the root of that number.

x^{\frac{m}{n}}=(\sqrt[n]{x})^m

For example:

(27)^{\frac{2}{3}}=(\sqrt[3]{27})^2

(27)^{\frac{2}{3}}=(3)^2

(27)^{\frac{2}{3}}=9

Hence, the concept or process is x^{\frac{m}{n}}=(\sqrt[n]{x})^m.
